Resolves Can't Communicate Errors While Scanning Prints or Negatives. Version: 2.2.1.7. hpi_scl.dll corrects a possible timing error between the HP PhotoSmart scanner and Windows 95/98. After upgrading Operating System to Windows 98, or installing an HP PhotoSmart Photo scanner on a new Windows 98 Operating System, Can't Communicate errors occur when scanning negatives or prints. Installation Instructions: 1.) Close PhotoSmart scanning software. 2.) Click Start, Find, Files or Folders. 3.) Type HPI_SCL.dll. Search from the root of C (C:). Click Find Now. NOTE: This file will be located in C:WindowsSystem. 4.) Rename HPI_SCL.dll to HPI_SCL.old. 5.) Copy updated file into C:WindowsSystem folder. 6.) Open PhotoSmart Scanning software. Scan negatives or slides. NOTE: It is recommended that you name the existing C:WINDOWSSYSTEMHPI_SCL.dll to HPI_SCL.dll.old before proceeding.
